DMA aka David Michael Anslow has had a long and varied career from protest printmaking and land art, to film making to music production. For the majority of the last 15 years, David has been working under the alias TRXTR - producing mixed media paintings with a strong focus on social commentary and perceptions, or misconceptions, of beauty and its relationship to corporate branding in the public realm, or in his own words, ‘“sketching a global train crash”.
More recently he has totally immersed himself in pure abstract painting, abandoning all references to real objects, situations or people. His work often goes through many transformations and permutations and may take several years to ‘fruit’. His work retains a delicate connection to socio-political commentary, often emerging in the work’s title and which is sometimes written directly on the canvas, titles which spring from the finished work at the very end of the process. As if the pieces themselves could talk.
As ever, DMA’s work continues to be experimental, but always emotionally charged, influenced by both personal and global current events. His work is ever-changing and is only released when ‘he has left the building’ for a new engagement. When something else needs seeing.
